Most people would describe themselves as funny. And why wouldn’t you? Having a sense of humor is arguably more important than anything else. Well, except money, fame, dick size, height, emotional maturity, etc.
However, there’s a difference between being funny and being a stand up comedian. How do I know this? Because I tried being a stand up comedian for Jenkem Tries, the series you’re hopefully about to watch right now.
Thanks to the countless devils on my shoulders, i.e. Jenkem executives, my ego, the three separate dates I told I’d be doing this, as well as my two new friends Max White and John Hedrick, I took the stage of a Brooklyn open mic.
Along the way we learned about stage presence, writing jokes, when to wear a stupid shirt, and how many beers you should drink to be funny. It’s something we’ve all thought about doing, and while it may have been my first and last time, I hope you enjoy it.

Maybe Jenkem really does have the potential to turn into something that reaches way beyond skateboarding, but through its lense. If that was the plan all along, chapeau! This felt like Vice minus the cynicism, or The Rolling Stone minus the Stones. A cultural outlet for an uncultured age. I like it!
