When Sabotage 3 dropped in 2012, I had recently moved to the East Coast from suburban Northern California. I came here being used to smooth pavement, fresh sidewalks, and perfect weather, so moving to New York was a reality check for me and my skating. If it wasn’t for stumbling upon the Sabotage series, I’m not sure I (or the rest of the world for that matter) would’ve known to look for more progressive, modern East Coast skating.
The video came at the start of a heavy renaissance era for the region that would bring us other classics like Static IV and V and underground hits like LurkNYC’s CCTV Surveillance Master Tape and Bronze’s original 56k.
Apart from providing the skate world with its signature aesthetic—that would be ripped off for years to come—the series also cemented Ishod Wair and Mark Suciu as “up next” figures. Their parts in Sabotage 3 were the perfect underground cherries on top of their endless output for their board and shoe sponsors.
The Sabo series is now five videos deep, and it’s unclear where it will go next, but we figured it’s always worth revisiting the Sabotage series and its influence over the skate world. We had them put together this mix to give you that OG Love Park flair for 2021. Pop it on and bust out some front shuvs in respect.
