SHOTS_Jenkem_Party

I know you’re probably sick of hearing about it by now but if for some reason you were logged off of the internet this week, we just released a board with Cliche skateboards and legendary artist Sean Cliver.

To celebrate the successful peace treaty Jenkem brokered between the United States, Russia, and North Korea (and the release of the Sean Cliver illustrated Cliché deck that portrays that shit-fueled negotiation), we threw a party at Max Fish in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Despite the rainy weather, the turn out was strong and the atmosphere was, drunk, to say the least.

A big big thank you to all that came out to celebrate with us, perhaps these pictures will help you piece together the hazier moments of the night…

cliver

The artist Sean Cliver was there selling prints, autographing decks, and signing your body. At some point a drunk dude tried to steal six of the forty silkscreened and signed boards we made. Cliver ran out of the bar and somehow caught up to him. Luckily the drunken slow-footed thief handed the boards back without much of a hassle…

aldavis

Al Davis and Jason Spivey with two other hipper-than-thou dudes managed to find an area to keep it low key in a corner of the bar.

mikebloom

The master of the Jenkem Mix Series, Mike Bloom, was playing tunes with his bodyguard on watch.

girlsphone

“OMG, Becky, I can’t believe you got Nestor Judkin’s number. I’m so jells!”

smithbrezinski

Lee Smith looking like Malcolm X and Joey Brezinski looking like Alvin the Chipmunk.

Crew

The roommates: Ian Michna, John Baragwanath and Richard Quintero, who filmed the board promo video.

theintern

Russell, a key contributor and intern was there repping the Toy Machine rip-off shirt and holding up the drink line.

Cliver_Decks_Signed

Some OG decks came out of the closet that night.

watson

NYC OG Alex Corporan and friends stopped by for a quick one.

dicktograph

Asking the dude who is famous for obscene skate graphics to draw something in permanent marker on your arm is either a really good idea or a really bad one…

prouddictograph

Welp, whaddya know? Cliver drew a dick! I really hope she went and got this tatted in for posterity.

German_Nieves

German Nieves, the mastermind behind the brand Paterson stopped by. Expect a Jenkem Mix with him soon.

postshotheadlock

Ian, Jeremy of Ripped Laces and Rich created a three man “moshpit” as Skepta’s track Shutdown started blaring.

girls

Girls, girls, girls, girls, girls I do adooore.

cliche

The Cliché crew and Sean Cliver sobered up enough to pose for this picture to send to their moms.

I liked skateboarding a lot more when I was considered a loser for doing it.

This is just another acceptable jock extracurricular now. I’m thinking about bringing back rollerblades. Rollerblades and box cutters.

chances are you’re still a loser, as am I. Skateboarding doesn’t change that; just allowed you & i to feel comfortable when that was its presumed m.o. Now, increasingly so, the cool guys(physical/mental success) have found how easy it is to climb the ladder among multitudes of unassuming asocial skateboard aficionados. Every market has its time(s) for exploitation. Thankfully, the skate market is so volatile the cool/uncool aesthetic recurs every few years. If true loser status is your ultimate path I recommend continuing to skateboard past age 30 without sponsors or a sizable bag of tricks.

So you’re saying that the cool guys will always find something to exploit and walk away, and in order to turn the tables on the whole fiasco, I basically have to let the cool guys have their fun until they get bored? I mean I know that ultimately, the cool guy needs all the coolness he can get because that’s all he has or will ever have, but I can’t help and think that you’re overestimating the appeal of skateboarding while underestimating everyone who complains. Which is why in my off time, the time off the board, I do my part and help keep skateboarding lame by yelling things like “DO A 900 TONY HAWK!” or “SKATE OR DIE” or the subtle (yet incredibly searing) “skateboards are for fags” while driving my car. Sometimes I’ll even throw bottles or whatever is handy just to make it count, or just overall treat them like second class citizens as countless of others have done in decades before.

It’s my job to help keep skateboarding lame, and it’s the cool guy’s job now to take it.
