“KILL BILL” PERFECTLY CAPTURES WHAT NYC FEELS LIKE RIGHT NOW

Curious what skateboarding has been like over here? Naquan Rollings‘ newest video opening with Björk perfectly captures the eeriness that has been present on the streets over the past 3 months. The hazy beats accompanied by her spooky voice reveal NYC naked in transition: tension in the air and a movement that is challenging the city everyday.

For those who aren’t familiar with Naquan, he’s the former filmer and editor behind the early Gangcorp videos. Most recently he released **ACAB** and PREROLL and plans to release a short edit every month or so.

While his approach to filming clearly takes cues from Strobeck, the lifestyle slow-mo gives the video a bit of an artsy flair reminiscent of some of the early J.Strickland Baker projects. And with many people gone or juggling unpredictable emotions, we’re lucky to have Naquan here to document and push skateboarding during the most significant year of our lives so far.

That’s hot! The skating is really good, and the music and editing have artistic sensibility too. I love Björk!

Try to film the entire person and the surroundings, not just the feet of the skater.

I really have a problem with that batch of videos that in a effort to look raw and with an open edition, ends up with a overly pretentious feel.
