This might sound strange, but to me, the Street Urchins are one of the most exciting crews in skateboarding right now. In 2017, where everyone is trying to outcool each other, start their indie brand, collab with high fashion (and ultimately, suck Supreme’s dick) there’s nothing more refreshing than a crew that is just happy being themselves.
So what’s so special about them? Well, The Street Urchins take every song you ever heard on the radio in your shitty small suburban town, and edits them to the most fun, goofy and surprisingly impressive skating, all at some of the best “non-spots” New York has to offer. Sprinkle in some lurkers, loonies and goons around town, and you got a video that feels like Chomp on This and Tilt Mode! settled down in Westchester and had a baby.
After bumping into the filmer Mike at a secret mini-ramp in Brooklyn, we convened at Jenkem HQ and talked about doing some edits together. This is the first installment of what should be a few — a kind of greatest hits (so far) of what they have to offer. This is the type of skateboarding that originally got me into skating, and it’s the type of skating that keeps me coming back for more.
Without further ado, we are hyped to present The Street Urchins, the whitest crew in skateboarding (and I say that in the best way possible).
