Chengdu, according to the locals, is the skate mecca of China. And according to Google, it is the happiest city in China. *hits blunt* I’m no scientist, but it sounds like skateboarding and happiness directly correlate.
This is what I imagine Adidas HQ sounded like when Adi-Mission, a week-long King Of The Road meets Copenhagen Pro style event, was conceived.
Twelve teams were given a booklet that includes a list of tricks and objectives to complete throughout the city. Jenkem correspondent Austin Leleu joined the five day event and did his best to keep up with challenges that included arm wrestling battles, eating pig brains and of course the usual skating and drinking.
While much of Asia has only recently become aware of skateboarding through the Olympics, Adidas is doing its best to keep skate culture abroad intact, so it doesn’t just become some newfangled sport that everyone “trains” for.
That’s what this trip was all about.
