TRACKING DOWN THE GIRL ON THE DEFTONES’ ALBUM 28 YEARS LATER

A lot has been said about the Deftones over the last 30-odd years, and although the dreary algorithms of the modern age have us all in a chokehold, at least they help allow for some good bands — like Deftones — to have a resurgence amongst the youth of today. Sure, one could argue it breeds posers, casuals — whatever nihilistic term you feel inclined could apply — but finding some new music that changes your POV as a youngster is always a good thing.

Even as a peripheral Deftones fan, you hear their songs, see their record covers, and it makes you want to know more. That’s definitely the case for their 1997 release, Around the Fur. One could argue that the just-lewd-enough cover is amongst some of the most visually iconic releases of the ’90s, and knowing that skate photographer, Rick Kosick, shot it just makes it that much sweeter.

We were in Seattle when we found out that the cover girl still resided in town and was down to share her experience with us, 28 years later.

Super cool story, and awesome to see how positive and proud all the folks who created the album cover are. Hearing how it all came together into an iconic piece of art was really rad. Thanks for the vid!

That “truck” dude can state his opinion and what he wants I guess. But what did you do in your life that makes you better than they achieved? If your not better than them than why would your stupid ass post something like that?

I’m 53. I bought this album on the day it came out in October 1997. I still listen to it often. Thank you for doing this article, it was really sweet and it took me back to those good ol’ days. And this lady seems so super-cool and chill now, lovely smile, I’m glad it was her on the cover.
