Skateboarding would be stuck in the stone age if it weren’t for the documentarians who capture and share it for all of us to marvel at.
Whether it’s filmers literally bending over backward to get that perfect angle, editors sitting at their desks getting scoliosis, or photographers having their eyes glaze over after sorting through thousands of frames, these are the troopers who are just as important as the skaters who are in front of the camera doing the tricks themselves.
Theo Hand is one of those documentarians who may not have the same name recognition as people like J. Grant Brittain or Atiba Jefferson, but he has given the skate world countless iconic images in both still and moving formats. Photographing his first cover for SLAP Magazine and filming for brands like TSA and Flip, Theo helped shape how skateboarding looks in the modern age, documenting names like Chad Muska, Tom Penny, and Ali Boulala, all in their prime.

I’m going to be 100% honest, I didn’t take these photos, I was just too excited to wait! I believe these are some of the backroads around between the edge of Indiana and Louisville Kentucky! I couldn’t tell you where though, this is my first time through these parts and I’m really just enjoying the drive too much to know exactly where I am!
