To make it as a pro skater, you have to be a little bit fanatical. You spend hours obsessing and perfecting a craft that deals with so much nuance and lots of hyper-fine details in order to make it in skating, which means the odds you are like that about something else in life are pretty high. That’s why we decided to launch this series and find out what other things skaters secretly fan out on.
First up, we have Christian Maalouf, who you may know from his floaty kickflips and numerous amazing parts. Someone once told us that he’s super into collecting action figures and toys, which surprised us because we always thought of him as a “cool guy” skater, which really just means we thought he’d be more into something like photography or sewing the perfect fitting pair of pants instead.
But it turns out he’s got a bunch of spots he hits up to find rarities, ranging from Simpsons x Lego collectibles to vintage X-Files action figures. We rode along with him on his mission to check out a collectibles swap meet to see what he could add to his collection. He was literally like a kid in a toy store the whole time, which is the obvious pun to make, but once you get a glimpse for yourself, you’ll see exactly how on-point it is.
Let us know if you know any other skaters with secret hobbies that you want us to feature in the comments below, or if you hate this segment, tell us to burn the hard drive that houses these video files instead.
