Within the Jenkem office, we all have our own “lock in” music. Some of us require ear bleeding hardcore to edit a video. Others need high bpm beats to shoot out emails. I, your editor Ben, need Horse Jumper of Love.
It’s not quite shoegaze, not quite folk, and not quite rock. Really, it’s an amalgamation of the three, and it’s this perfect genre storm that allows my mind to drift into the space it needs to be for writing to happen.
Led by frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos, the three piece band from Boston’s latest album Disaster Trick is a slow moving train that may or may not have a destination. Its meandering yet introspective lyricism is carried along by hazy guitar tones that keep you listening.
Because of my love for this music, I reached out to Dimitri and the band for Jenkem Mix 153. And I wasn’t disappointed. Featuring bands like Shallowater, Taxidermists, and Peel Dream Magazine, it’s an ode to slowcore from smaller, very talented bands.
Toss it on during your next rainy day work session, I promise it’ll be the dreamy escape you need. Oh yeah, download HERE or forever hold your peace.
