Back in 2017, Transworld posted a YouTube video showing New York’s Nike SB crew building and skating a DIY in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
With overgrown trees and ballooning concrete, the spot looked more like a cutty Appalachian DIY than anything else in the city. And the spot felt like it had the potential to become a staple for an otherwise underserved neighborhood.
Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. Ending in demolition and some people getting arrested, it seemed like the spot was destined to sit unused forever.
That is, until now. A new generation of skaters are breathing life back into the spot, taking a risk and building something they’re tired of waiting for.
Given the spot’s history, some would say it’s a lost cause, but we wanted to see who’s leading the charge and the motivation behind resurrecting the storied DIY, so we met up with Moe, the spots main build organizer, for a day of mixing concrete and hanging out.
