TRACKING DOWN THE GIRL ON THE DEFTONES’ ALBUM 28 YEARS LATER

A lot has been said about the Deftones over the last 30-odd years, and although the dreary algorithms of the modern age have us all in a chokehold, at least they help allow for some good bands — like Deftones — to have a resurgence amongst the youth of today. Sure, one could argue it breeds posers, casuals — whatever nihilistic term you feel inclined could apply — but finding some new music that changes your POV as a youngster is always a good thing.

Even as a peripheral Deftones fan, you hear their songs, see their record covers, and it makes you want to know more. That’s definitely the case for their 1997 release, Around the Fur. One could argue that the just-lewd-enough cover is amongst some of the most visually iconic releases of the ’90s, and knowing that skate photographer, Rick Kosick, shot it just makes it that much sweeter.

We were in Seattle when we found out that the cover girl still resided in town and was down to share her experience with us, 28 years later.

Nothing to write home about 1997 was in the worst year of the 90s and some of the worst music came out that year and this album was nothing to write home about until they came out with white pony which is still the best album they’ve ever done. This is when sky and rap metal was shaping the landscape unfortunately nothing like the early 90s or you had bands like Rage Against the Machine Faith No More and Tool and helmet. But anything better than nothing works musically got out there now I guess one good thing about the late 90s it was before the internet blew up my life was a whole lot more simple

You asses actually get paid to write this shit? Deftones have like 3 decent songs, the rest are not any better than I see in the bowl in the morning, felt like that for as long as they’ve been a garage band.
