As little kids, we all dreamt of watching our favorite skaters whenever they’re not filming for big projects. There’s something special about watching pros just cruise, throwing out their go to tricks or goofy one offs that they wouldn’t normally put in their video parts.
This Instagram compilation of Andrew Reynolds’ casual footage from the last year or so is basically a peek into that world. People tend to throw the word “throwaway” around fairly lightly, but just because these clips didn’t make it into the latest big Baker or Vans edits doesn’t mean they’re not worth the watch.
Reynolds still has the finesse and power he first became known for in his earlier days, but here he seems a little more unrestricted than he was in his Stay Gold part. It’s exciting to see him break out of perfectionist mode, and flow freely, stringing tricks together in a way that almost seems improvisational. After nearly three decades of pro skateboarding we’ve never seen Reynolds this relaxed and uninhibited.
Take a second to enjoy The Boss still kicking it at age 42, and while you’re in the mood to watch pros who are aging gracefully, check out Josh Kalis’ most recent part as well.

There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

This is “chill skating” at forty something? I’m 45 and it’s just curbs, banks and manny pads from here on out for this guy.
