Love Japanese skating? This edit sent to us by Kenta Okamoto is the perfect balance of style and substance in a world where a lot of skate edits either have one or the other.
The spots are unique and pleasing to the eye, and it captures an intensity and mystique that isn’t common in American skateboarding. Kenta has put out a string of edits on his personal YouTube channel over the last two years, but “Pale” is by far one of his strongest.
Our favorite part, though, is the music. As any editor can attest, finding a track that complements the visuals can be one of the hardest steps in the video process, but Kenta found a fit that gives the edit an introspective edge that few editors would have thought to venture toward. In other words, no hard thrashing beer-and-weed-fueled garage punk here.
For a bit more info on Kenta and his other projects, check out an interview by Live Skateboard Media here.

Heavy sub-zero vibes. Like watching an unreleased eastern exposure video from 96. Congrats to the crew. Far eastern exposure #1?!

It’s nice and captures the vibe of street skating in Japan well, but as well as the wobbly zoom-in after trick Strobeck style, and the rough-spot Eastern Exposure style, the audio and visual style of this are most heavily influenced bi Takahiro Morita / FESN – compare the music and edit from 3:45 onwards to this (Overground Broadcasting, 2011) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlDo2i_tXIg
