Up and coming skate crews sometimes have a problem with overdoing it with their brand marketing. They call themselves a “hardgoods / apparel / media production / rapper / viral influencer empire,” but rarely do they succeed at even one endeavor, let alone all of them. They’d have better luck getting their brand noticed by doing the condom snorting challenge.
But Illegal Civilization is a rare group that seems to be living up to their own hype. They make full-length skate videos, boards, shoes, short films, and instead of trying to make a quick buck selling their name to some “action sports brand group,” they doubled down on skating by becoming part of the Baker Boys Distribution family.
We asked Mikey Alfred, Illegal Civ’s master schemer, to put together a mix that captures his wide-reaching influences. He gave us a soulful mix with a hype man speech to kick it all off.
Check it out in the player below, and if you dig it, download it here while you can.
