THE PUSH FOR SKATEBOARDING & THE OLYMPICS CONTINUES

October 22, 2013/ / VIDEOS/ Comments: 56

The strong push for skateboarding to be included in the Olympics continues, as shown by this recent video pitch displayed on the International Skateboarding Federation’s (ISF) website. Although the everyday skateboarder may not be familiar with the ISF, they are skateboarding’s governing body with the goal to “to provide direction and governance for the sport of skateboarding worldwide.” While the discussion of skateboarding’s inclusion into the Olympics has been going on for a long time, that doesn’t mean everyday skaters should not be aware or have a voice in how our activity is being defined and marketed.

why is there a need for validation from a bunch of nerds? i can see the money/sponsorship opportunity for big name sponsors and the sense of egotistical, announced achievement, but yo suck a dick

Skateboarding can be whatever you want it to be.

To some it’s a field for competitive athleticism, to others it’s a creative outlet for self-expression. A hobby, a career, transport, an art, a sport… Take is seriously or fuck around – if you’re having fun who gives a shit?

To me it’s about self-progression, driven by individuals on their own terms.

As an Olympic sport this would not change at all, if anything it will only bring skating to more countries so others can share the thing we love.
