We hate to say it, but most interviews with pro skateboarders tend to produce some pretty stale content these days, and who can blame them?
With big sponsors to keep happy, multiple video deadlines to juggle and various modeling gigs to book, routines and opinions have gone bland. In pursuit of finding compelling stories we decided to take a page out of OG Jenkem’s playbook: turning the camera back on you.
Our series “Locals” focuses on the often overlooked characters that surround skateboarding – the eccentrics, weirdos and local legends who are staples in the community for reasons outside of having a great back tail. It’s the people with no sponsors to answer to and no paychecks to lose. The people who skate for the love and have a routine unique to themselves.
For our second episode, we bring you Sean Reilly, a Hawaii skateboarding staple. Sean’s known for his crew the “Shitty Kids” and the hijinx filled full lengths he produced in the early 2000s. Bringing a look at Hawaii’s underbelly when most focused on the white sanded beaches, Sean’s video’s offered an honest look at the Island that’s hard to find anywhere else.
He’s also been the go-to spot guide for decades with a rolodex of crusty Island spots he’s dying to see get taken on. We hung out with Sean for a couple days to check out his spot bounties, and while we were there we got the backstory on his videos, passion for barefoot skating, and got deep about growing older. Enjoy..

Sean is a true legend. Glad I got to skate with him a lot when I was just a shitty little grom back in the early 2000s
