Gather around kids, it’s story time!
A long time ago (1995), in a land far far away (Tampa, Florida), a man who loved Elephants (Mike V) did a magical skateboarding trick (kickflip 5050) to secure $1,000 (adjusted for inflation $2,084) and the first-ever win at Tampa Pro (the longest running skate contest).
Flash forward. A current, all-powerful panel of judges (including Jason Rothemeyer, Jimmy Gorecki, Pat Stiener, Paul Zitzer, and Kyle Berard), many of whom weren’t around back then (30 long years ago), now focus on a young prodigy boy from Japan (Yuto Horigome) who loves the musical stylings of Future (a popular rap artist).
Some say his tricks (nollie flip late flip boardslide) make Elephant Man’s look like a funny joke, and they would be right, but that’s what we call progress (things getting better over time). Interested in this progress, a young journalist (let’s call him Ian) decided to ask these judges to time travel (watch winning runs from previous Tampa Pros).
Young Ian wanted to know how these old skate contests would be judged today. He brought a camera (Sony AX700) and documented the whole process for his online publication (Jenkem Mag), and you can watch it now (on YouTube). Okay, kids, it’s getting late. Get some rest.

Buseintz is rad cuz he skates fast and does lines, and is really really good. The rest is meh and never been a fan of such slow skating.

“but that’s what we call progress (things getting better over time).”
Who says the nollie flip late flip boardslide is “better” than kf 50? Just different. I personally think Yuto’s skating is gross and boring. But that’s just my opinion.
P.S. – no contest run will ever be better than Buseintz’s! Ever!
