Over the last couple of years we haven’t seen much footage of the elusive Pops, aside from his tricks in Cherry and the occasional Instagram post. He’s not the easiest to track down and he’s not the type of guy you bump into skating LES skatepark. Luckily for us, our friend and filmer Richard Quintero is one of the few people that has been filming occasionally with Pops over the last couple of months. Accumulating some skate mission footage and clips, we thought it was too good to get dusty and lost in some hard drive. With that in mind, we edited the footage and sat down with Pops for a short conversation about his skateboarding and the future of his career.

This guy is actually such a downer. How could you talk about something as fun as skating and be that bummed??

It looks like he’s crying at the end.

So bitter… I’m sure skate politics suck and all but he can’t really hate on Girl/Chocolate for not supporting the OG’s or creative, innovative skateboarding. Look at all the vets on the squad who don’t even do handrails or stairs and super creative guys like Vincent Alvarez and Cory Kennedy. If he don’t go on any trips or associate with the team, you can’t really blame them for letting him go. I mean, Gino’s been in and out of jail and injured so much that he doesn’t get to skate much and they’ve always had his back cuz he is a part of the team/family. Pops got nobody to blame but himself. Still love his skating tho.

i’m not sure that comment about sponsors was about the girl/chocolate folks. i think he was saying getting cut from converse meant he had to get a regular job to pay the bills, which cut into his time to skate/film. i remember reading that he he wasn’t getting paid from chocolate — he just got on cause he was into the team/brand, not for a the paycheck.
