AN ODE TO ARTO SAARI

September 29, 2014/ / VIDEOS/ Comments: 8

Skateboard media moves pretty fast these days, and I think it’s good to occasionally remind ourselves that just because something came out today or went viral on Facebook 4 minutes ago, doesn’t necessarily make it better or more valuable than skateboarding from months or years ago. It’s even easy to neglect the timeless and progressive skateboarding of our most beloved skaters, just because they aren’t in the daily content vortex. With that in mind, we had our friend Joey Sinko edit some of Arto Saari’s most memorable video moments so far and drench them in 90s and 00s nostalgia. If you ever wanted to remember why you love Arto or forgot he was a skater before his current photography shindig, check this one out.

This is, mostly, footage from Flip’s Sorry. Not much “editing” on Joey Sinko’s part it seems.

I remember reading articles where Ed templeton would go out with Rowley and Sarri. He always commented on how they would all push each other and that if it hadn’t been for their talent and commitment to hit newer bigger rails- he wouldn’t have lipslid that rail at the end of “This is Skateboarding”. It’s crazy to think – that this was considered the norm for a particular era of skateboarding. It was a different vibe then. Now it seems to be centered within parks and on television and the parts are out more frequent but with less ferocity.
