Did you know you can technically pregame anything?
Reading. Pregame it with a cup of tea. Skating. Pregame with an hour of gossip and a spliff. Work. Pregame with anything that gets you through another day. Niontay’s Sophomore album “Fada<3of$”? Pregame with Jenkem Mix 152.
Yes, that was my extremely convoluted way of telling you Niontay has taken over for a Jenkem mix on the eve of his promising new album’s release.
If you’re unfamiliar with Niontay, he’s a rapper that is part Midwest wordsmith, part Florida-inspired beat maker, and part introspective New York tastemaker. I fell for his calm flow, one that doesn’t shy away from a beat switch, and I continue to return for the head bobbing, smokey haze his songs induce.
His diverse background makes for a collection of beats that play inspiration hopscotch. And on top of his music he’s a talented skateboarder, one who regularly releases footage alongside friend and mix alumni 454.
For his mix, Niontay brings This Mortal Coil into the same room as Trick Daddy. It features sped up versions of both Tracy Chapman and Kodak Black. And it introduces you to Etsako music, the sounds of the Etsako region of Nigeria.
