People love to compare skateboarding to other things, and we’ve heard a lot of wild comparisons over the years. Skateboarding is like cooking, like getting high, like creating music, etc. Want to know one we’d never heard before?
Skateboarding is like herping.
Far less sexually devious than it sounds, “herping” is actually the act of searching for amphibians or reptiles. An unfortunate name to say the least, herpetology is basically just a fancy name for real-life Pokemon hunting. It also turns out to be one of Monica Torres’ off-the-beaten-path hobbies.
Monica grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil and is one of Asics newest team additions. Her career took off back in 2019 when she won Women’s Battle at the Berrics, and has since been keeping busy filming and travelling.
Roaming California armed with flashlights and other tools we don’t know the name of, Monica and her crew flipped over rocks and peeked into crevasses in hopes of finding some cold-blooded critters. Kick back, relax, and check it out. We promise snakes can’t bite through the screen.
