After a short break we are proud to announce a new and improved episode of The Tim O’Connor show. So what’s improved about it? Well Tim figured out how to record phone calls, so now instead of having to go interview people face to face, he can do it over the phone from the comfort of his couch in New Jersey. What does this mean for you? It means the recordings are better quality, since there’s less ambient noise in the background and the guests can be anywhere in the world. In addition, Tim took your advice and flexed his listening skills, giving a bit more room for his newest guest to talk.

For episode 9, Tim called up the founder of Habitat skateboards, Joe Castrucci to talk about Habitat’s distribution change, the craziest team riders of all time and Joe’s hippie tendencies.

Don’t forget to check out the show highlights and the links and mentions from this week’s episode. And, as always, send shit for Tim to talk about next time here: [email protected].

I think it was important to bring up the countless amount of BS that is populated into mainstream skateboarding culture (nike, mountain dew, revive, youtube, snapchat even). WE as a culture are being exploited. this invasion even more so blurs the lines between “legit” skateboarders and those who could give a shit less about our history and way of life. Where Andy Shrock’s joke in a video leaves a stronger impact on our community than say a skater doing a 360 flip sexchange up a 2 stair euro while at the same time hippy jumping the 8-stair rail next to the euro, something unprecedented meant for our culture to thrive and reflect upon, gets swept under the rug. what is a legit skater anymore? what does core mean now? how many skaters out there REALLY care about skateboarding and the cultivation of our craft? how many skate companies out there care about this mindset? You better believe nike studies the shit out of these aspects, and they do it solely to maintain legitimacy within the skateboarding world, not because they care about us. We as skaters really have to be aware of those in our industry that may have multiple agendas outside of skateboarding. a big company like mtn dew fired a team rider because of him living a skateboarding lifestyle, yet those guys are still legit in the community and a plastered on banners across multiple skate websites! WTF!!! Why are we letting this happen?
