JenkemIntern

Before you start pissing and moaning, let me clarify that THIS IS NOT A BEST OF LIST. The idea was to ask a couple of our contributors and friends for their favorite web parts of the year, and to write a little blurb about them. The only catch was that the clips had to be released straight to the web for free. It’s not the best parts, best skateboarding or an award ceremony – just a couple clips that people who spend too much time on the internet watching skateboarding have enjoyed in 2013. Got it?

WELCOME – ERICK WINKOWSKI

“It’s basically impossible for me to select a single clip from this part. His skating seems informed by those video parts that were, more or less, dudes doing extremely long boardslides, but he updates it for our super-sized era. This dude clearly gives no fucks (re: his ender is filmed on a digicam) and skates with Cardiel-like mania. You’re my SOTY Erick Winkowski!” – Morley Musick

KROOKED – BRAD CROMER WELCOME TO THE PRO RANKS

“I’ll go with Cromer full part/going pro. Suciu and Westgate and the whole HUF team will probably have a lot of votes but I like Brad’s skating a lot. He’s a skateboarder’s skateboarder who was talented enough to go pro for Gonz’s company and get a circular board delivered to him by the man himself. Brad rips. He’s everybody’s buddy who always managed to keep surprising you with how good he was and how far he’d progressed. He skates like everybody’s friend who you know who could make it, only he’s the one who actually did.” – Christian Senrud

BRONZE – SOLO JAZZ

“The other Bronze video [56k] is amazing but this one seemed to really hit the nail on the head and win the hearts of anyone who has ever used ‘old internet’ before. mIRC, Popups, Windows 95, Viruses and spyware, I can’t say I missed it but I did enjoy the idea of the internet being ‘scary’ back then. I remember logging into chatbox.com and trying to cyber with chicks. After the 5th dick pic you think I would have realized it was just a room full of dudes.” – James Lee

CASTE – THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT

“If you haven’t heard of it yet, Caste is a small label based on quality and simplicity. Chris Mulhern’s The Philadelphia Experiment paired old classic Philly footage with stuff from the new kings of Philly, Ishod Wair, Mark Suciu and others to become one of the best gems of 2013.” – Luke Physioc

HABITAT – SEARCH THE HORIZON

“Since the criteria won’t allow me to pick Westgate’s banger in Emerica’s Made, I’m going with Habitat’s Search the Horizon and that choice should be obvious. In a year that brought us some surprise Gino footage and plenty of Ishod, I’m giving it to Habitat for ending the year with an absolute beast anchored by Mr. Suciu. Before I’m out, I’d like to make one observation and acknowledgement, technically speaking Nyjah really put it down in Fade to Black, but everyone enjoys Suciu’s approach more right? Stylistically speaking though–get ready for an unpopular opinion–do they really look that different on a board? Both are absolutely perfect and precise like they know they won’t slam, the only difference is that Suciu wears those long sleeves that dangle over his hands, looking a little more steezy. There, I said it.” – Anthony Pappalardo

BOB BURNQUIST – “DREAMLAND”

“How isn’t this on the list already? You can watch this part 30 years from now and still be shocked by it.” – Jeremy Lugo of Ripped Laces

TIM & ERIC’S COOL SECRETS

“Our new intern put me onto this one. I was hesitant at first because you know how intern suggestions can usually be [horrible] and I cringe a little bit every time someone says, “Dude you GOTTA see this new part.” But surprisingly, he was right. The tricks are so insanely stupid and cartoonish that I can’t help but break open a bag of chips, sit back, and laugh. There may be imitators but no one can top the true masters. Thank you Tim and Eric. Thank you.” – Ian Michna

HUF – WELCOME KEVIN TERPENING

“That 180 out of the wallride is forever burned into brains.” – Luke Physioc

POLAR – TROCADERO DAYS

“For me, this was hands down *the* ‘grab your board and skate’ clip of the year. I love everything that Pontus and Polar stand for and this was a great homage to skateboarding’s past without being cheesy or played-out. It was a bunch of great skaters going out with piece of wood and a jump ramp and having the best time possible. You know you’re doing something right when you get a bunch of demur French(wo)men standing around cheering for some guys doing wallies and early grabs.” – Rich Kaminski
